Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, conducted inspections to prevent barn fires caused by electricity, such as winter electrical leakage and overheating of heating wires.
The inspection, carried out on the 27th in cooperation with the Goseong Fire Station and others, focused mainly on aging livestock farms in the area that are vulnerable to fire outbreaks.
Barn fires occur in winter when the weather becomes dry due to aging electrical facilities, use of insulation materials or heating devices, and careless management. Especially, many fires occur in barns raising pigs or chickens, requiring special attention from farmers.
To prevent barn fires, the following measures should be taken: ▲ use heating devices that meet standards ▲ inspect electrical equipment including aging leakage breakers ▲ regularly check the condition of wiring insulation and request repairs from professional companies ▲ avoid daisy-chaining power cords when using heating devices ▲ prohibit burning garbage near barns and handle fire sources with care ▲ maintain appropriate humidity inside barns and equip fire extinguishing equipment.
A county official stated, “Once a barn fire occurs, it can easily lead to significant property damage,” and urged, “Barn managers must thoroughly inspect heating devices and electrical equipment and actively engage in preventive activities such as removing fire hazards in advance.”
