Yeongdeungpo-gu, Winter Gas Safety and Inspection of Facilities and Retaining Walls Due to Heavy Snowfall

Inspection of 118 Gas Supply and Usage Facilities with Related Agencies by End of January Next Year
Focused Checks on Safety Device Management, Flammable Material Storage, and Gas Leakage Status
Preventing Gas Accidents by Eliminating Risks in Advance and Establishing a Thorough Safety Net in Daily Life

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) is conducting a "Winter Gas Safety Inspection" targeting gas supply facilities and gas usage facilities in collaboration with related organizations to prevent safety accidents during the winter season, when gas consumption is high.

This inspection aims to establish a seamless safety net for residents' daily lives by proactively preventing gas accidents such as pipe damage and gas leaks through preemptive safety checks.

The inspection targets a total of 118 locations, including gas supply facilities, construction sites, schools, and multi-use facilities. The district will conduct on-site inspections in cooperation with related organizations such as the fire station, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, and Seoul City Gas until the end of January next year.

For liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and high-pressure gas facility charging and sales locations, as well as gas supply facilities of city gas, the management status of gas container storage rooms, gas leak detectors, emergency shut-off devices, and other safety equipment will be intensively inspected.

Additionally, the inspection will check for facility retaining wall collapses caused by cold waves, heavy snow, and freezing.

Safety inspections of gas facilities at large construction sites will also continue. The district will examine compliance with safety management and whether flammable materials are left unattended around construction sites to eliminate potential risk factors that could lead to major accidents. Emergency communication and response plans will also be reviewed.

Prior to the recent university entrance exam, the district conducted inspections at nine exam sites to check for gas leaks or fire hazards. Safety inspections of multi-use facilities will also be promoted in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday next year. Gas leaks and pipe defects will be checked at department stores, hospitals, hotels, traditional markets, and other locations.

The district will guide immediate on-site correction for minor issues found during inspections and take administrative actions such as improvement orders if serious violations are discovered. Guidance on gas facility safety management and accident response measures will also be provided.

Furthermore, the district has established a 24-hour situation management system in cooperation with the Korea Gas Safety Corporation, Seoul City Gas, and fire stations to maintain readiness for dispatch and thoroughly prepare for any potential gas accidents.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "We will do our utmost to prevent gas safety facility accidents and establish an emergency response system so that everyone can spend this winter safely. Since facility defects or negligence in management can lead to large-scale fires, I hope that not only those responsible for gas facilities but also all residents pay special attention to gas safety rules."
