Mokpo City Rated 'Excellent' in Enhancing Quality of Life through Care and Welfare Evaluation

Ministry of the Interior and Safety Hosts 'Local Government Productivity Award' Encouragement Prize

Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 28th that it received the Encouragement Award in the Productivity Index Measurement category at the 14th Local Government Productivity Awards hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.


This competition, which began in 2011, is an event aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of local governments nationwide, comprehensively evaluating efforts to improve residents' quality of life and public services from the perspective of productivity.

Among 226 basic local governments nationwide, 16 were selected in the Productivity Index Measurement category, and Mokpo City achieved outstanding results. The evaluation was divided into 6 fields across 2 areas, measuring competitiveness through indicators such as population management, local economy, and administrative and financial capabilities, and assessing quality of life through indicators such as care and welfare, safety and health, and education and culture.


Mokpo City received excellent evaluations compared to the average of the target local governments (cities) in the 'local economy' field, a local government competitiveness area, and the 'care and welfare' field, a quality of life area. In particular, out of 24 sub-indicators, 11 indicators including △total fertility rate increase △youth employment growth rate △number of social welfare facilities △number of daycare centers and daycare center infants △subjective health perception rate △number of hospital beds in medical institutions received S and A grades.


Mayor Park Hong-ryul said, "I am pleased that our efforts to improve citizens' happiness and quality of life have borne fruit through this award," and added, "We will continue to strengthen administrative capabilities and strive to make Mokpo an even better place for citizens to live."
