Daegu Dalseo-gu (District Mayor Lee Tae-hoon) announced on the 28th that it will promote the policy of ‘Reemployment of Public Service Workers from Multi-Child Families after Retirement Age’ to allow affiliated public service workers to work 1 to 2 years beyond the retirement age (60 years).
The ‘Reemployment of Public Service Workers from Multi-Child Families after Retirement Age’ policy will be the first to be implemented among basic local governments in Daegu by Dalseo-gu.
Under Daegu Dalseo-gu’s ‘Reemployment of Public Service Workers from Multi-Child Families after Retirement Age’ policy, public service workers with two children will be reemployed for one year, and those with three or more children will be reemployed for up to two years after retirement. This will apply starting from retirees in the second half of 2024.
An official from Daegu Dalseo-gu stated, “There are 12 public service workers eligible for reemployment at the end of this year, and a total of 64 people are expected to be reemployed by 2029.”
As the marriage age rises, many people reach the retirement age (60) without completing their children’s education, creating a need for income security for a certain period. The reemployment policy was discussed as a form of compensation for past child-rearing efforts.
Meanwhile, Dalseo-gu supports various and unique benefits for employees of marriageable age and those in childcare periods to address population issues in the era of low birthrates and aging. These include additional points for childbirth employees, welfare points of 200,000 KRW for dating expenses for unmarried employees, and full payment of performance bonuses for employees on parental leave who have worked for more than two months.
In particular, since 2016, Dalseo-gu has established the nation’s first Marriage Promotion Team and has implemented various policies to encourage marriage and childbirth. Through matchmaking events for unmarried men and women and public-private cooperation, 175 couples have successfully married so far, making it a hot benchmarking target for other local governments.
Lee Tae-hoon, Mayor of Daegu Dalseo-gu, said, “We are implementing the reemployment of multi-child public service workers to enhance the job stability of the parent generation, fill the income gap in old age, and reflect the policy goal of supporting multi-child families. We will continue to proactively respond to the population crisis in the era of low birthrates and aging.”
