Outstanding Policies on Green Energy, Basic Income, and Basic Transportation
Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 28th that it has been recognized for its outstanding achievements in the green energy sector and received the ‘2024 Korea Local Government Administration Award.’
The ‘2024 Korea Local Government Administration Award’ is held to contribute to the full establishment of local autonomy and regional development by selecting and awarding basic local governments and heads of organizations that have achieved outstanding results in regional development. Paju City won awards in both the basic local government category (green energy sector) and the head of organization category.
To actively respond to the climate crisis, Paju City has led carbon neutrality policies by making various efforts to grow into a sustainable green energy city, including △establishing the nation’s first basic local government RE100 support team △enacting the nation’s first RE100 support ordinance △enacting the nation’s first ordinance on the use of eco-friendly banners and recycling of discarded banners.
In addition, Paju City received high praise for successfully introducing basic income and basic transportation policies by △providing heating cost support to all households for the first time nationwide △issuing the largest scale of local currency in the country △operating the nation’s first student-only school shuttle bus.
Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City stated, “Basic society policies are a new solution that can overcome the livelihood economy and social problems and alleviate polarization,” and added, “We will continue to expand policies into various fields such as energy, finance, housing, and care to realize a Paju-type basic society.”
