Sharing Achievements of Uijeongbu’s Second Year as a Cultural City
Three-Day Event Features Special Lectures, Academic Conferences, Networking, and Exhibitions from November 28 to 30
The Uijeongbu Cultural Foundation (CEO Park Heeseong) announced on November 27 that it will host the '2024 Living Together with Cultural Cities' event at Uijeongbu Culture Station Eum from November 28 to 30. Over the course of three days, the achievements of Uijeongbu’s second year as a legally designated cultural city will be brought together and shared with citizens.
'Living Together with Cultural Cities' is an event that marks the second year of Uijeongbu as a legally designated cultural city, providing an opportunity to share and celebrate its achievements with citizens. The event will feature a variety of programs, including business sharing sessions for flagship projects such as 'Baekmanwon Laboratory' and 'Saigonggan', as well as special lectures by renowned figures, academic conferences, networking events, and exhibitions.
The special lecture program, 'Sea of Thought', will invite film director Jang Hangjun (on the 29th) and veterinarian Seol Chaehyun (on the 30th) to share engaging stories on the worlds of creativity and coexistence with companion dogs, respectively. In addition, the 'Slow City Exhibition' by Jim Avignon, a first-generation German pop art artist, will be held as a concurrent exhibition, offering visitors a delightful visual experience in partnership with the cultural city during the sharing week.
The conference, co-hosted with the Korean Society for Cultural Economics, will be held under the main theme of 'Future Policy Directions for Sustainable Cultural Cities'. It will feature specialized sessions on topics such as artificial intelligence, economics, and local content, as well as sessions for emerging researchers and graduate students. A total of six sessions and 27 research papers will be presented on site, with numerous experts in the field of cultural economics expected to participate in vibrant discussions.
There will also be a dedicated time for local activists and artists who have contributed to building Uijeongbu as a cultural city. The 'Cultural City Network Party', which brings together participants who have worked to shape Uijeongbu throughout the year, and the 'Business Sharing Session' for flagship projects such as 'Baekmanwon Laboratory' and 'Saigonggan', will provide an opportunity for more than 100 citizen activists who have led these initiatives to share their experiences and reflections, wrapping up the year's projects together.
Additionally, the 'Cultural City Archive Exhibition' will showcase the major outcomes of 14 projects across five fields that were carried out during Uijeongbu's second year as a cultural city. Throughout the three days of the sharing week, citizens will be welcomed in the lobby of Uijeongbu Culture Station Eum, where they can gain a comprehensive look at the city’s annual journey as a cultural city.
A foundation representative stated, "This event was organized to reflect on and share the achievements of the past year with citizen activists and local artists who have 'lived together and enjoyed together' with Cultural City Uijeongbu. We hope this will serve as an opportunity to increase citizens’ interest and participation in the cultural city."
'2024 Living Together with Cultural Cities' is open to all citizens, and details about the programs and how to participate can be found on the 'Cultural City Uijeongbu' Naver Cafe and the Uijeongbu Cultural Foundation’s Cultural City Support Center.
