Hanam Mayor Lee Hyun-jae Attends Safety Prayer Ceremony for Tentative Misa 5 Middle School New Construction Project

Announcement of the Start of Major Construction for New School to Alleviate Overcrowded Classes... Opening in March 2026

Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 27th that on the 26th, the Gwangju Hanam Office of Education held the ‘(Tentative Name) Misa 5th Middle School New Construction Safety Prayer Ceremony’ at 537-1 Pungsan-dong and officially commenced construction.

About 150 people attended the safety prayer ceremony for the new construction, including Hanam Mayor Lee Hyun-jae, Gwangju Hanam Office of Education Superintendent Oh Seong-ae, National Assembly member Kim Yong-man, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly members Kim Seong-su and Oh Ji-hoon, Hanam City Council Chairperson Geum Gwang-yeon, construction company officials, parents, and local representatives.


This event was planned to pray for the safe completion of the school construction by the Gwangju Hanam Office of Education on land owned by Hanam City and to inform residents that the school construction has begun.


The safety prayer ceremony proceeded in the following order: ▶ Construction overview report ▶ Superintendent’s greeting ▶ Congratulatory speeches by key guests ▶ Groundbreaking ceremony and commemorative photo session.


In his greeting, Superintendent Oh Seong-ae said, “We thank Hanam City for actively cooperating in securing the site and installing public facilities to alleviate overcrowded classes in the Misa district,” and added, “The Gwangju Hanam Office of Education will do its best to ensure that the tentatively named Misa 5th Middle School can open normally in March 2026, providing children with a comfortable educational environment.”


Mayor Lee Hyun-jae emphasized in his congratulatory speech, “To solve the overcrowded class problem, we changed park land to school land and allocated 3.1 billion KRW from our own budget to establish school infrastructure, making every administrative effort,” and added, “Hanam City will continue to make every effort to resolve major educational issues, such as the separation and establishment of the Hanam Office of Education, aiming to become an ‘Education Premium City Hanam.’”


Meanwhile, the tentatively named Misa 5th Middle School will be built on a site of 15,000㎡ at 537-1 Pungsan-dong, Hanam City, with 31 classes. Construction began in October this year, and the school is scheduled to open in March 2026.
