‘Generational Empathy Sharing+’ is a social contribution project newly launched this year by Yeonggwang-gun in partnership with LH and Habitat for Humanity Korea to address the population and regional extinction crisis and revitalize the area. Following a public contest in July, two locations nationwide (Yeonggwang and Pohang) were finally selected in September.
The project site is Seoro Village in Daema-myeon. Under the slogan “The youngest village in the world,” the village community operates a caf?, hamburger shop, and more. Recently, promotion through SNS has led to a continuous increase in visits from outsiders and population inflow, showing high growth potential.
Through this project, the county plans to create infrastructure such as parking lots and drainage facilities, and develop walking trails and playgrounds to attract more visitors from other regions. In particular, it is expected that population inflow will be possible if a profit structure is established through various program operations and improvements in the start-up environment.
Under this agreement, Yeonggwang-gun will invest 200 million won to implement the ‘Generational Empathy Sharing+’ project, LH will provide overall program management and financial support of 1 billion won, and Habitat for Humanity Korea will oversee the project.
A county official emphasized, “Starting with this agreement, we plan to actively support Yeonggwang to become a region that finds solutions to the population and regional extinction crisis. We will prepare various policies to create a well-balanced and prosperous Yeonggwang.”
