Taean County in South Chungcheong Province is making every effort to improve and expand its water supply facilities, aiming for a supply rate of 99.9% by next year.
The county announced that it plans to raise the current water supply rate from 98.2% to 99.9% through various projects, including the construction of the Iwon Reservoir next year, and will also significantly expand its sewage treatment facilities.
To ensure a stable water supply in the Iwon-myeon area, the county will invest 1.4 billion KRW to build the Iwon Reservoir in Poji-ri, Iwon-myeon.
In order to construct a 600㎥ reservoir and one booster station, the county began basic and detailed design services in September. Construction will begin in January next year, with completion scheduled for May 2026.
The relocation of water and sewage pipelines between Sakseon and Wonbuk, which began construction this month, will also continue next year.
This project involves relocating 5.8 km of pipelines in connection with the expansion and paving of Local Road No. 603, with a total investment of 2.28 billion KRW. Once completed in December 2026, it is expected to provide more stable water usage for residents.
The county is also making every effort to expand advanced sewage treatment facilities. As the sludge dryer at the center has become outdated, causing odor and inconvenience to nearby sports facilities and local farms, the county plans to expand odor control facilities and complete technical diagnostics and detailed design by May next year.
Projects to build or expand sewage treatment facilities in response to the development of local accommodations and pension complexes are also ongoing. For the projects in Uihang-ri, Sowon-myeon, and Sinduri, Wonbuk-myeon, construction is currently 70% complete and is scheduled for completion in April next year. For Hakampo, Gonam, Mansudong, and Guraepo, administrative procedures are underway with a target completion date of 2026.
In addition, to improve sewage treatment efficiency and address odor issues, the county will convert the combined sewer system in the old downtown areas of Taean-eup and Anmyeon-eup to a separated system (where rainwater and groundwater flow separately), with construction set to begin at the end of next year through a Build-Transfer-Lease (BTL) private investment method.
Kim Nakgyeom, head of the Water Supply and Sewerage Center, said, "We will make every effort to introduce and operate advanced facilities so that residents can enjoy high-quality services and a more pleasant living environment in harmony with the environment."
