Chuncheon City Library has been editing creative works by citizens who participated in the library's reading culture programs since March this year, publishing a poetry collection and a picture book. There are two books in total: the poetry collection "Dongdongdong Dongsi Annyeong 2" (Kim Kyung-ran and 16 others) and the picture book "Stories Met in Dreams 2" (Kim Soo-yeon and 5 others).
"Dongdongdong Dongsi Annyeong 2" is a collection of poems by 17 citizen poets, including 51 children's poems, created through the participation of attendees of the "Children's Literature Creative Writing Advanced Class" and members of the "Dongsi Playground" club, which originated from the same class. The "Children's Literature Creative Writing Class" has been operated for seven years under the guidance of children's literature poet Lee Hwa-joo. So far, a total of 13 poets have debuted after learning poetry through this class.
"Stories Met in Dreams 2" is a picture book completed by six participants who wrote and illustrated original stories themed on dream omens under the guidance of picture book author Kim Yong-chul in the "Making Dream Omen Picture Books" class. Notably, participants have continued their interest in picture books even after the class ended, engaging in activities such as submitting to publishers and creating personal picture books.
The publication commemoration ceremony will begin with a congratulatory performance by singer-songwriter Jo Gil-sang, who also participated in the 2023 program, followed by introductions of the classes and published books, and conversations with citizen authors and instructors. It is expected to be an opportunity for many citizens to celebrate the book publication news together and recognize the joy of children's literature.
In addition to the commemoration ceremony, a book exhibition will continue in the library's first-floor lobby until December. The published books will also be distributed to 34 public libraries in Gangwon Province, small libraries in Chuncheon City, and elementary schools for use.
Mayor Yuk Dong-han of Chuncheon City stated, "We plan to actively support not only accessing information and culture at the library but also creating and widely sharing information and culture by ourselves."
