Ulsan City Sees 32.5% Increase in Usage Following Free Fare Policy for Children's City Buses

9-10 Months Daily 3,881 Users... Smooth Preparation for Free Fare for Seniors Aged 75 and Over Next Year

Ulsan City’s “Free Fare for Children on City Buses” project, which has been in effect since September 1, has received great support from citizens.

This project is the first phase of the free city bus fare initiative under Ulsan City’s key policy “Ulbusim Life+ Project” in the second half of the 8th term of the elected government, and it attracted significant attention even before its implementation.

Analysis of children’s usage over the two months since implementation (September to October) showed that the average daily number of child users was 3,881, a 32.5% increase compared to 2,928 during the same period last year.

In particular, in October, the average daily users reached 4,182, marking a 42.3% increase compared to the previous year, demonstrating a steady rise in the number of users and proving the effectiveness of the project.

By day of the week, Saturday had the highest average daily users at 5,459, while Monday had the lowest at 3,130. Notably, on Saturday, October 26, the number of users peaked at 6,350.

By time of day, 57% of users were concentrated between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with the highest usage occurring between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Usage was evenly distributed across routes, with the highest usage recorded on major routes such as 104, 106, 127, and 401.

An official from Ulsan City stated, “The free city bus fare project for children and seniors not only increases citizens’ satisfaction with daily life but also boosts city bus usage rates. We ask for children’s continued interest and use.”

The free fare project for seniors aged 75 and older is also being smoothly prepared and is expected to be fully implemented from the second half of next year. Through this, tailored transportation services with free fares are anticipated to be provided to seniors as well.
