Starbucks Launches Regular Program for Subscription Service 'Buddy Pass'

Monthly Subscription Fee Reduced from 9,900 Won to 7,900 Won
Benefits Including 30% Discount on Manufactured Beverages and Food

Starbucks Korea announced on the 27th that it will officially launch its subscription service 'Buddy Pass' as a regular program starting from the 2nd of next month.

Buddy Pass is a subscription service introduced by Starbucks to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its opening. It consists of a 30% discount coupon for handcrafted beverages available daily after 2 PM, a 30% discount on food, free delivery fees for Delivers, and free shipping coupons for the online store.

Starbucks has been running this service on a trial basis since last month. With the official launch, Starbucks will maintain the existing benefits but reduce the monthly subscription fee from 9,900 KRW to 7,900 KRW. Accordingly, existing subscribers who agree to extend the service will be able to use it at the reduced subscription fee starting from the 2nd of next month.

According to Starbucks' analysis of consumption patterns of Buddy Pass users during the trial period, the visit frequency increased by more than 50% on average per month compared to before using the service. Additionally, the amount of benefits received per Buddy Pass user reached an average of 23,300 KRW per month, which is more than twice the subscription fee. The company stated, "There were encouraging results in terms of overall service satisfaction."

Buddy Pass is structured so that the more frequently consumers use Starbucks, the greater the benefits they receive. If all benefits are utilized, users can receive up to 64,800 KRW in monetary benefits. With the recent subscription fee reduction, the actual monetary benefits for users are expected to increase even further. To commemorate the official launch of the subscription service, Starbucks will provide one beverage coupon for a free tall size Americano or Cafe Latte to customers who agree to extend their subscription starting today.

Starbucks plans to continue developing the Buddy Pass service. Baek Ji-woong, Starbucks' Planning Manager, said, "Based on customer feedback collected during the trial period, we decided to start official operations with a reduced subscription fee to provide more practical benefits to customers. We will continue to gradually enhance the program to offer differentiated experiences and benefits."
