Discussion on Responding to Drug and Fraud Crimes
The National Police Agency has sought cooperation with eight ASEAN countries to strengthen capabilities in combating transnational crime and maintaining public security.
The National Police Agency announced on the 27th that it held the 'Korea-ASEAN Security Cooperation Forum' over two days starting from the 26th at the Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan, Seoul.

The forum was attended by high-ranking officials from eight ASEAN countries, including Nguyen Van Long, Vice Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, and Sri Ayob Pitkai, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Malaysia Police, as well as representatives from Asiana Pol, to explore cooperation measures for responding to transnational crime and enhancing security capabilities.
On the first day, the 26th, presentations and discussions were held on the topics of 'International Police Cooperation and Official Development Assistance (ODA)' and 'Current Status and Response Strategies for International Fraud Crimes.' In the bilateral meetings held the same day, in-depth discussions continued on measures to respond to drug-related crimes and Southeast Asia-based investment fraud crimes, which have recently become problematic.
At the Vice Minister of Public Security meeting scheduled for the 27th, plans to discuss cooperation measures for the protection of overseas nationals are underway. Earlier, during his visit to Vietnam in September, Police Commissioner Jo Ji-ho exchanged mutual understanding on the necessity of bilateral cooperation with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
The National Police Agency expects that this forum will further strengthen the cooperation system among ASEAN countries. In his welcoming speech, Commissioner Jo said, "Korea and ASEAN have expanded cooperation in the field of security based on a long history of cultural friendship," adding, "I hope this forum will serve as an opportunity to effectively respond to transnational crime."
