The task force, led by Kim Gi-yong, Director of Corporate Investment, is an organization aimed at concentrating administrative power together with the private sector for proactive response to attract this project.
This contest project aims to create a resort city similar to Cancun, Mexico, by attracting new private investment in areas where existing conditions such as recreational and tourism facilities are established. The total project scale is 1 trillion won, including 800 billion won in private investment. If selected in the contest, 100 billion won in national funds will be supported.
During the meeting, discussions were held on ▲ the concept for developing the complex marine leisure tourism city ▲ discovering optimized projects considering the conditions of Hwaseong’s west coast ▲ contest criteria ▲ and the results of meetings with eight fishing villages.
The city plans to continuously hold task force meetings to concretize the project plan for winning the complex marine leisure tourism city contest. In this process, residents’ opinions will be actively collected and reflected through resident briefings.
For this contest, Hwaseong City plans to link major tourism resource development projects it is promoting, including ▲ Gungpyeong Comprehensive Tourist Site Development (149,867㎡) ▲ Goryeomsan Marine Park Development (93,002㎡) ▲ Hwanggeum Coastal Road Deck Construction (17 km) ▲ Hwaseong International Theme Park Development (4.2 million㎡) ▲ Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site (15.9㎢) National Geopark. Along with this, major marine tourism resources in Hwaseong such as Jebudo and Jeongok Port will be connected to foster balanced regional development and develop the west coast area into a representative tourist destination of the Seoul metropolitan area.
Director Kim Gi-yong said, "Starting with the task force, we will systematically prepare for the contest in line with government policy directions to ensure that Hwaseong’s unique and beautiful complex marine leisure tourism city is selected."
Meanwhile, to revitalize tourism in the western region, Hwaseong City signed a business agreement for the promotion of Hwaseong marine tourism with The Gyeonggi Bay Aquarium Co., Ltd. in December last year.
