Busan National University Successfully Hosts International Symposium 'CEAM2024'... Korea-Australia Global Technology Cooperation MOU

Held in Busan from the 20th to 23rd, 150 Experts Attend

Sharing Research Outcomes... Discussing Geo-Industry-Academia Cooperation Models

‘Transforming Busan into a Global Clean Energy Hub City through Global Cooperation and Technological Innovation’

Busan National University (President Choi Jae-won) announced on the 26th that the ‘2024 International Clean Energy and Advanced Materials Symposium CEAM2024’ was successfully held over four days from the 20th to the 23rd at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Busan, with about 150 world-renowned experts from academia and industry in attendance.

This event was co-hosted by Busan National University (Chair Professor Jeon Chung-hwan) and Monash University Suzhou Campus (Australia, Co-chair Professor Jianglong Yu), with participation from numerous countries including Korea, Australia, China, Japan, Vietnam, and Taiwan, opening new horizons for global energy cooperation and advanced materials research.

With a 15-year tradition, CEAM began with the establishment of the International Carbon Future Cooperation Center (ICCCF) and has alternately been hosted by Korea, Australia, and China, establishing itself as a key platform for exploring sustainable energy solutions. Following this year’s event in Korea, CEAM2025 will be held at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

This year’s theme, ‘New Energy and New Opportunity,’ emphasized the importance of international cooperation and technological innovation.

The symposium’s opening ceremony began with congratulatory remarks from Professor Jeon Chung-hwan of Busan National University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, chair of CEAM2024, and Lee Jun-hyun, director of the Busan RISE Center. The program featured a diverse lineup including 7 plenary lectures, 12 keynote speeches, and 50 oral presentations, sharing cutting-edge research achievements in clean energy and advanced materials and discussing cooperation models among academia, industry, and government.

On the 21st, as a core event of CEAM2024, Busan City, Korea Electric Power Technology, Panasia, Busan National University, and the University of Newcastle (Australia) signed a memorandum of understanding to develop ammonia-based clean energy technologies and establish a cooperative network.

Through this agreement, each institution committed to jointly creating a sustainable energy future through the development of ammonia-based clean energy technologies and international cooperation. Busan National University plans to play a pivotal role in global clean energy research and industrial collaboration, leading efforts to accelerate sustainable energy transition through international technological cooperation.

Professor Jeon Chung-hwan, chair of CEAM2024, stated, “CEAM2024 has become more than just an academic event; it marks the starting point for global cooperation and technological innovation. In particular, this agreement will serve as an important milestone for establishing Busan as a clean energy hub city. Through such international cooperation, we will transcend technological boundaries, strengthen international solidarity, and present a global energy transition model centered on Busan.”
