On the 25th, children harvested napa cabbage and radishes and experienced kimchi making... 1,500 heads of napa cabbage and 500 radishes harvested were delivered to five welfare organizations including facilities for people with disabilities and self-support centers
On the 25th, Guro-gu held a crop harvesting event at the Oryu IC Urban Agriculture Experience Center.
The Urban Agriculture Experience Center is a space where crops are grown within the city, providing children with opportunities for nature experience activities using vegetable gardens and learning through labor education.
For the crop experience activity, the district planted cabbage and radish seedlings in August. After about three months of cultivation, the grown cabbages and radishes were harvested together with children, and a kimchi-making experience was provided where they made baechu kimchi and kkakdugi.
About 100 participants, including children from local childcare facilities, attended the experience center.
The children pulled out and carried cabbages larger than their own faces and big radishes, sharing the joy of harvest with their friends. The 1,500 cabbages and 500 radishes harvested through the combined efforts of the children and staff will be delivered to five welfare organizations, including facilities for people with disabilities and self-support centers.
A Guro-gu official said, “We hope this harvesting experience allowed children to learn the importance of urban agriculture and create precious memories with their friends. We will continue to do our best to prepare various programs to expand agricultural experience opportunities.”
The district operates a vegetable garden experience program at the Oryu IC Urban Agriculture Experience Center. In October, they conducted activities observing earthworms and mantises and an organic circulation program using compost, and in early November, they held an experience activity planting green onions.
