Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon described the acquittal of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was indicted on charges of suborning perjury, in the first trial as a "common-sense result."
On the 25th, Governor Kim said on his social media (SNS), "It is fortunate. It has sounded an alarm against the prosecution's separate investigations and sweeping investigations."

He added, "The unlimited harassment of the loser and unconditional leniency for the winner must stop," and "Only then can politics and people’s livelihoods be revived."
The Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Presiding Judge Kim Dong-hyun) acquitted Lee, who was indicted without detention on charges of suborning perjury, on the same day.
Lee was indicted in October last year on charges of requesting false testimony from Kim Jin-sung, a former secretary to former Seongnam Mayor Kim Byung-ryang, during his trial for violating the Public Official Election Act in February 2019.
Earlier, on the 15th, Governor Kim expressed regret on SNS over the judiciary’s decision when Lee was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation, a sentence that corresponds to losing his parliamentary seat, in the first trial of the Public Official Election Act violation case.
