Gapyeong-gun Offers Free Medical Treatment for All Seniors Aged 65 and Over at All Health Institutions

Expansion of Medical Separation Exceptions to Health Subcenters and 15 Health Clinics Starting from the 23rd

All seniors aged 65 and over in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province can receive full exemptions on medical and pharmaceutical fees at public health institutions (health centers, health sub-centers, and health clinics) starting from the 23rd of this month.

The Gapyeong-gun Health Center announced on the 25th that it has revised related ordinances to improve medical services for seniors aged 65 and over and has been providing free medical treatment at all public health institutions since the 23rd.

Accordingly, residents aged 65 and over registered in the district can receive medical fee exemptions by presenting their resident registration card when visiting any public health institution. Due to the ordinance revision, seniors using health sub-centers (Buk-myeon, Sang-myeon) and 15 health clinics within the Gapyeong-gun pharmaceutical separation exception area can now receive full exemptions not only on medical fees but also on pharmaceutical fees.

As of last year, about 7,000 residents aged 65 and over paid out-of-pocket expenses when using public health institutions, so this measure is expected to provide them with substantial medical cost savings.

Seo Tae-won, the county governor, said, “This free medical treatment focuses especially on improving access to medical services for vulnerable health groups and expanding elderly-friendly health policies. Through medical fee exemptions, we will support the prevention and management of chronic diseases among local seniors and ensure that more residents can benefit.”
