Confessing Feelings About the '400 Million Investment' Gym Lawsuit
Famous fitness trainer Yang Chi-seung opens up about the lawsuit regarding the gym lease fraud.
In the Channel A variety show "Close Friends Tokyumentary: Table for Four," airing on the evening of the 25th, Yang Chi-seung confesses his feelings about the real estate lawsuit he is currently involved in with the landlord of the gym he operates. He says, "The number of members at the gym is decreasing, and the situation is not good," adding, "I haven't told my family. If only I suffer, there's no need for the whole family to suffer, right?" expressing his sense of responsibility. Yang Chi-seung also becomes emotional, saying that his son and daughter, upon learning about the situation, "did not turn on the air conditioner even in the hot summer to save on electricity bills." Nevertheless, he shares that "the lawyer's office was intimidating at first, but after frequent visits, it became comfortable," conveying that he is staying positive despite the difficult process.
Earlier, in January, it was revealed that Yang Chi-seung and other merchants filed a complaint with the police against the Gangnam District Office for obstruction of business. They also filed a lawsuit against real estate development company A, with whom they had signed lease contracts, on charges of violating the Specific Economic Crimes Act (fraud) related to the deposit. The building in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where Yang Chi-seung and the merchants are tenants, was constructed in 2002 as a private investment project by the Gangnam District Office and company A. At that time, company A agreed to transfer the management and operation rights of the building to the Gangnam District Office once the 20-year free-use period ended. However, this fact was not disclosed at the time of the lease contract, and Yang Chi-seung opened a gym in the building, investing hundreds of millions of won in remodeling.
Subsequently, in July and September of last year, the Gangnam District Office filed a lawsuit against the merchants for the delivery of the property. Yang Chi-seung and some merchants, who are still operating their businesses, were accused of unauthorized occupation and even faced complaints. In response, Yang Chi-seung said, "I invested 400 million won in this gym through a mortgage loan. I don't know when I will have to close, but I must refund all the members," and confessed, "I was seriously defrauded 10 years ago, and now, after turning 50, to be defrauded again, I was just stunned. I thought I had lived diligently, but I felt like I was stabbed in the back like this."
Yang Chi-seung's appearance on "Close Friends Tokyumentary: Table for Four" will be broadcast at 8:10 PM today, the 25th.
