Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) DIT Social Service Group conducted rural volunteer activities for two days from the 15th to the 16th in Seonri Village, Yangsan City, Gyeongnam Province.
Since establishing a sisterhood relationship with Seonri Village in Yangsan, Gyeongnam in 2008 through the One School One Village program, Dong-Eui Institute of Technology has been promoting various volunteer activities such as helping hands and environmental cleanup to support farms experiencing labor shortages during specific periods, including the harvest season.
The DIT Social Service Group, consisting of about 40 students and faculty members, helped alleviate the labor shortage in rural areas by harvesting and packaging apples in the village's communal farmland and cleaning irrigation channels and the village surroundings.
Park Jin-young, a student in the Department of Physical Therapy who participated in the volunteer work, said, “The joy of directly experiencing life in a rural area was greater than the physical hardship,” adding, “This opportunity made me more interested in rural areas, and I will help whenever I have the chance.”
Kim Young-do, president of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, stated, “This rural volunteer activity is meaningful as students directly share the difficulties of farmers in the field of agriculture,” and added, “I hope our students at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology have come to realize the importance of the agricultural industry firsthand.”
The DIT Social Service Group of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology conducts rural volunteer activities every June and November.
