ArteK, November Solo Exhibitions by Choi Seung-yoon and Kim Dople
Choi Seung-yoon's 'Curves' Visualizes the World's Paradoxes with Blue Curves
Kim Dople's 'Highway Tactics' Resolves Modern Social Conflicts through Love and Harmony
The solo exhibitions of two artists, who reconstruct dynamic, curvilinear thinking and various events in ordinary daily life from a transcendental perspective with vibrant blue brushstrokes, are presented together in one space.
ArteK, a subsidiary of K Auction, is hosting solo exhibitions of Choi Seung-yoon and Kim Dopeul on the first and second floors, respectively. First, Choi Seung-yoon's solo exhibition "Curves," held on the first floor until December 4, unveils a total of 18 new works embodying the artist's curvilinear thinking.
The exhibition highlights the artist's signature works that visualize the paradoxes of the world through blue hues and intense curves, exploring his unique perspective on life and the universe.
Choi Seung-yoon has deeply engaged with the fundamental principles of the world, especially opposing concepts such as beginning and end, life and death. The artist expresses these paradoxical elements through the sculptural language of curves, offering viewers an opportunity to reflect anew on the diverse facets of life.
The blue that fills the canvas symbolizes water and sky, embodying the dual characteristics of coldness and warmth. This color, combined with intense and dynamic curves, portrays each work as an independent living entity and a small universe. Through previous series such as "The Beginning of Stillness," "The Law of Freedom," and "Rise and Fall," the artist has explored opposites, and in this exhibition, he presents a new perspective called "curvilinear thinking."
Curves go beyond mere formal elements, representing the artist's contemplation to understand the world as a metaphor for balance and harmony. Through the exhibition, visitors can directly experience the artist's artistic world, which seeks balance within paradoxes.
On the second floor, Kim Dopeul's solo exhibition "Highway Tactics," which embodies a new perspective transcending various conflicts in modern society, runs until the 8th.
Based in Busan, the artist imbues the exhibition's title, 'Highway Tactics,' with meanings such as 'high road,' 'ascending,' and 'transcending,' expressing his will to resolve conflicts and issues in modern society through perspectives of love and harmony.
Kim Dopeul reconstructs events from ordinary daily life through flat and installation works, offering viewers an alien yet captivating landscape.
The works capture various aspects of social conflicts. Recently, the artist explored conflicts between the older and younger generations based on personal conflicts with his father, proposing love and harmony as ways to transcend them.
He emphasizes that the complex problems of modern society, which cannot be solved by rationalism and intellectualism alone, must be approached emotionally and humanely. Through his works, the artist powerfully conveys a new perspective that transcends various conflicts in contemporary society.
