Application of Circular Recycling PET to 'Kooksoondang Old Makgeolli 古'
Steady Cooperation Continues Since MOU with SK Chemicals in July
Kooksoondang announced on the 25th that it has commercialized the application of SK Chemicals' circular recycled PET (CR-PET) in premium traditional liquor containers for the first time in the industry.
The circular recycled plastic 'SkyPET CR' is a material based on chemical recycling technology that breaks down waste plastic to the molecular level and returns it to raw material, enabling the same quality and physical properties as petrochemical-based PET materials. This is the first time a traditional liquor container has been developed using a material based on chemical recycling technology.
According to SK Chemicals, quality tests confirmed that the container does not deform during domestic distribution or while passing through the equator during export, maintaining the taste and quality of the traditional liquor. Earlier in July, Kooksoondang and SK Chemicals signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop a replacement for the petrochemical-based PET material previously used in traditional liquor containers.
The container jointly developed by the two companies has been applied to Kooksoondang's premium traditional liquor product, "Yennal Makgeolli Go (古)." Kooksoondang plans to expand the application of 'SkyPET CR' to export product containers, starting with domestic traditional liquor containers. A Kooksoondang representative stated, "Developing containers made from circular recycled materials and applying labels that facilitate easy separation and disposal are essential corporate tasks for solving environmental issues and advancing overseas."
