BISTEP Discusses 'Quantum Memory Materials R&D Strategy' at the 6th Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum

On the 29th at the conference room of Busan City and Busan Institute of Science and Technology Higher Education Promotion

Exploring New Industry Development Plans Specialized in Quantum Technology Utilizing Power Semiconductor Conditions

Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion (BISTEP, Director Kim Young-bu) will hold the "6th Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum 2024" at 2 p.m. on the 29th in the BISTEP main conference room.

Hosted by Busan City and organized by BISTEP, the Busan Future Technology Innovation Forum was established to derive mid- to long-term research and development directions and strengthen networks among stakeholders to foster promising future technologies and advanced strategic industries in Busan.

At this 6th forum, under the theme "Quantum Science Technology Era, Busan's Quantum Memory Material R&D Strategy," the forum will explore ways to nurture new industries specializing in quantum technology (materials) by leveraging Busan's power semiconductor conditions and gather expert opinions.

The forum's keynote presentations will be given by Chief Researcher Joo Jung-jin of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, who will introduce "Current Status and Applications of Quantum Memory Technology," and Professor Ok Jong-mok of Pusan National University, who will discuss "The Necessity of Quantum Memory Material Development and R&D Strategy." Following this, a panel discussion will be chaired by Professor Park Sung-kyun of Pusan National University and will include PO from the Quantum Technology Division of the National Research Foundation of Korea, Professor Lee Won-jae of Dong-Eui University, Chief Researcher Lim Hee-jin of the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science, and Research Director Lee Hyun-jae of B2G. They will discuss "Material Technology Demand and Development Strategies for Fostering the Quantum Semiconductor Industry" and hold a Q&A session.

The quantum memory material field is an early-stage technology where fundamental R&D research is crucial, but it is recognized as a sector with significant ripple effects and growth potential in the quantum era. Accordingly, Busan City is continuing efforts to establish itself as a central city leading innovation in quantum memory material technology by securing a base for building a "Quantum Information Technology" cluster and fostering talent, leveraging strengths accumulated in the power semiconductor sector.

Kim Young-bu, Director of BISTEP, stated, "We plan to make efforts to position Busan as a key city in the quantum semiconductor material field through this forum," and added, "We hope this forum will serve as an opportunity to discover differentiated specialization directions and intensively nurture the quantum semiconductor material sector based on the opinions discussed."
