Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has been selected as one of the '100 Most Influential Entrepreneurs' by the prominent U.S. economic magazine Fortune.
According to business circles on the 25th, Lee ranked 85th in Fortune's recently announced list of the '100 Most Influential People in Business.' He is the only head of a Korean company included in the top 100.
Fortune comprehensively evaluated entrepreneurs worldwide based on management performance such as mid-to-short-term sales and profit growth rates, business soundness, innovation, and social impact, selecting 100 leaders across 40 industry sectors.
Regarding Chairman Lee, Fortune stated, "As the chairman of Samsung Electronics and Korea's richest person, he was educated and trained for a long time to succeed his father, Lee Kun-hee, the previous chairman, in the Samsung group founded by his grandfather." It added, "Since his father fell into a coma due to a heart attack in 2014, he has acted as the de facto leader of the group."
About Samsung under Lee's leadership, Fortune noted, "Samsung is the world's top memory chip manufacturer but has fallen behind competitors in the hottest market (High Bandwidth Memory, HBM)." It also evaluated, "In the foundry business, Samsung has lost ground to its competitor TSMC." It added, "Although the stock price declined this year, Samsung Electronics' stock price has doubled since 2017."
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, ranked first among the 100. Fortune mentioned, "Musk's broad vision and engineering intuition have made him a recognized leader across multiple industries," and "He has devoted more time to politics, becoming one of the most prominent and significant supporters of President-elect Donald Trump." Following him, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, which dominates the artificial intelligence (AI) chip market, ranked second, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft (MS), ranked third. Other global big tech CEOs in the top ranks included Tim Cook, Apple CEO (6th), Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO (7th), Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO (8th), and Sundar Pichai, Google CEO (10th). Additionally, Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway (4th), Jamie Dimon, chairman of JPMorgan Chase (5th), and Mary Barra, chairman of General Motors (GM) (9th), were also in the top 10.
