In a statement on the 22nd (local time), Trump introduced Turner as "an NFL (National Football League) veteran who led unprecedented efforts to transform the most challenging communities in America."
He added, "Scott will work with me to make America great again for all Americans."
Turner is the first Black cabinet nominee in Trump’s second term administration.
He played for the NFL Washington Redskins from 1995 to 2004, then entered politics and was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2012, serving until 2017.
During Trump’s first term, Turner was appointed to lead the WHORC, which was established by presidential executive order in 2019.
