Trump Nominates Chavez-Dilermar as Labor Secretary... "Reviving the American Dream"

In a statement on the 22nd (local time), Trump said, "Chavez-DeRemer has tirelessly worked with both the business and labor sectors to build the American workforce and support hardworking American men and women."

He added, "I hope to create tremendous opportunities for American workers with her, expand training and apprenticeships, raise wages, and improve labor conditions to restore manufacturing jobs."

He emphasized, "By achieving historic cooperation between the business and labor sectors, we will revive the American Dream for working families. With strong support for Lori from both sectors, the Department of Labor will be able to unite all Americans."

Chavez-DeRemer began her public service career in 2002 as a member of the Happy Valley City Parks Commission in Oregon.

In 2014, she was elected as the first Hispanic mayor of Happy Valley.

In the 2022 federal House of Representatives election, she ran for Oregon's 5th congressional district and won, becoming Oregon's first female Republican representative.

This is the fourth time President-elect Trump has nominated a sitting member of the House of Representatives to a key position in his second administration. However, since Chavez-DeRemer lost her re-election bid in the election held alongside this year's presidential election, the number of Republican representatives in the 119th Congress, which will convene in January next year, remains unchanged.
