MOU Between Defense Facilities Headquarters and MOU
The Korea Energy Agency and the Defense Facilities Headquarters have agreed to jointly cooperate on achieving zero energy in defense facilities.
On the 25th, the Energy Agency announced that on the 22nd, it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Defense Facilities Headquarters to mutually cooperate on carbon neutrality through the application and expansion of zero energy buildings (ZEB) in defense facilities, as well as information exchange and network building related to this.
On the 22nd, at the Korea Energy Agency Seoul Regional Headquarters in Yeouido, Lee Sang-hoon, Chairman of the Energy Agency (right), and Jo Byung-yoon, Director of the Defense Facilities Headquarters, are taking a commemorative photo at the "Korea Energy Agency-Defense Facilities Headquarters Business Agreement Ceremony."
Through this agreement, the two organizations will raise defense facilities to the level of zero energy buildings to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings. They also agreed to establish a mutual cooperation system through joint efforts for sustainable greenhouse gas reduction by standardizing the design of zero energy buildings exclusively for defense facilities, developing policies and standards capable of reducing greenhouse gases across all defense facilities, and exchanging education and information.
The Defense Facilities Headquarters is the sole dedicated facility organization in the entire military, executing approximately 4,400 projects worth 8.7 trillion KRW related to military facilities as of this year, aimed at realizing a well-trained advanced military force. The annual execution scale of the Facilities Headquarters accounts for about 15% of this year’s public procurement market. The Energy Agency expects that applying zero energy building standards to defense facilities procured by the Facilities Headquarters will significantly contribute to carbon neutrality.
The Agency plans to support 'zero energy building optimization' including design analysis, economic feasibility analysis, and optimal construction cost analysis to help buildings ordered by the Facilities Headquarters obtain zero energy building certification. Based on the analysis results, it will propose design standards that consider energy efficiency of defense facilities to be procured by the Facilities Headquarters in the future, as well as the comfort of military personnel, actively assisting in reducing greenhouse gases in defense facilities and boosting the morale of military personnel.
Lee Sang-hoon, Director of the Energy Agency, said, "To actively realize carbon neutrality, defense facilities are now entering the zero energy era, and the Agency plans to provide maximum support to achieve this." He added, "We will expand cooperation with the Facilities Headquarters to take the lead in realizing carbon neutrality in the public sector."
