Efforts to Enhance Authority of Basic Local Governments
Jo Jae-gu, Mayor of Nam-gu, Daegu, was re-elected as the representative chairman of the Korea Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads, which consists of 228 basic local government heads nationwide, in recognition of his capabilities during the first two years of his term.
The Korea Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads held the first joint chairman meeting of the third year of the 8th local government term at 3 p.m. on the 21st at the Korea Press Center in Seoul, where the executive members of the joint chairman group leading the second half of the 8th local government term were appointed.
Representative Chairman Jo Jae-gu and the joint chairman group issued a joint statement strongly opposing the education 'deferred integration plan' that merely shifts financial responsibility, demanding clear financial measures from the Ministry of Education, and declared that they will strongly respond to unreasonable infringements on local autonomy together with the four major local government councils.
Additionally, the association plans to actively reflect the voices from the field to address tasks such as expanding local decentralization, responding to regional extinction, and promoting balanced regional development, so that residents' lives can improve significantly.
Representative Chairman Jo Jae-gu said, “Since you have trusted me and entrusted me with the position of representative chairman once again, I will faithfully perform the given role and strive even harder to increase the authority of basic local governments and realize a true era of local autonomy.”
