Three Leading Korean Companies Introduce Their 'Strategies'

A conference where you can check the trends, current status, and prospects of 'Climate Tech,' which is gaining attention as a solution to the climate crisis, will be held. There will also be sections such as a quiz 'Golden Bell' that citizens can directly participate in, and a low-carbon dietary lifestyle talk show.


The Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul National University Climate Tech Center announced on the 22nd that they will hold the '2024 Seoul Climate Tech Conference' for two days on the 25th and 26th at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). The theme is 'Climate Tech Innovating Everyday Life,' aiming to explore the prospects of the new growth industry climate tech that saves the Earth, support measures for domestic companies, and spread carbon reduction practices in citizens' daily lives.

The event will begin with keynote speeches by Jeong Sujong, Director of the Seoul National University Climate Tech Center, and Na Seokgwon, President of SK Social Value Research Institute. Director Jeong will speak on the topic 'Why We Should Focus on Climate Tech Now,' explaining the role and purpose of climate tech. President Na will present measures to reduce carbon through incentives for climate tech companies.


There will also be a session to look at industry megatrends from the perspective of overseas climate tech experts. Seo Sangwon, CTO of the global climate tech unicorn company 'Watershed,' and Jack Greenwood, APAC Chief Marketing Officer of 'KrakenFlex,' will introduce the growth, experiences, and megatrends of climate tech companies. Watershed, founded in 2019, is a U.S.-based carbon accounting software company that develops software supporting greenhouse gas emissions measurement and sustainability reporting, serving many global companies as clients. KrakenFlex is a UK renewable energy production company that monitors real-time energy consumption and provides energy-saving solutions to customers, serving over 54 million people worldwide.


Domestic climate tech companies gaining global attention will also attend. On the second day of the conference, the 26th, Naraspace, Sixty Hertz, and Carbon Value, selected as the top 100 climate tech companies by the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), plan to introduce innovative technologies and success strategies through lectures.


In addition, various domestic climate tech companies will exhibit their technologies. Thirty-eight companies, including 'Tobers,' which exhibits eco-friendly shampoo bars and body bars, 'Bangber,' which upcycles wine bottles, and 'Sustainable Lab Co., Ltd.,' which presents plastic alternative amenity materials, will participate. In the context of carbon reduction becoming a global issue, visitors can also check out 'Carbon Korea's' carbon capture and utilization facilities and 'Namu Planet's' AI-based carbon reduction management services for companies and public institutions.


A venue for direct citizen participation has also been prepared. In 'Climate Golden Bell,' general citizens, including middle and high school students, can participate by solving questions related to the climate crisis and low-carbon policies, with prizes awarded to the final five participants. There are also 'citizen participation' lectures aimed at raising awareness of the importance of climate tech among citizens.


Let's Join the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Food Culture... 'Low-Carbon Dietary Lifestyle Expo'

During the conference, the '2024 Seoul Low-Carbon Dietary Lifestyle Expo,' with participation from 31 food tech companies, will also be held. Under the theme 'Low-Carbon Dietary Lifestyle Changing Everyday Life,' low-carbon food companies and others will participate in cooking demonstrations, exhibitions, and lectures.


At the expo, visitors can experience various low-carbon food tech products and recipes, including new food engineering technologies such as 3D food printing, alternative seafood, and cell-cultured foods, as well as naturalistic cooking methods. Sales booths will also be available, allowing citizens to purchase products directly.

On the 26th at 2 p.m., a talk show will be held featuring Yoon Jiro, author of 'Carbon-Friendly Table,' science communicator 'Woollim,' comedian Kim Jae-woo, singer-songwriter Yojo, and Almond Club podcast PD Jung Ye-eun. They will discuss practical ways to implement a low-carbon dietary lifestyle and cook curry incorporating low-carbon dietary practices.


At 4 p.m. on the same day in the conference hall, Professor Lee Gi-won of Seoul National University’s Food Tech Department will give a lecture titled 'The Future and Prospects of Food Tech,' discussing the role of food tech as a solution to problems related to eating.
