The Climate Companion Card is an innovative transportation card that allows unlimited use of public transportation for around 50,000 to 60,000 KRW per month. Since its launch in January this year, it has received great response, with up to 600,000 users on weekdays.

Goyang City, with a population of 1.08 million, is the largest among Gyeonggi local governments adjacent to Seoul City and has long shared a metropolitan living area closely with Seoul, striving for the development of a metropolitan transportation system.

Due to successive large-scale housing developments in Samsong, Wonheung, Hyangdong, and Deogeun, the number of citizens commuting between the two cities is increasing, making the expansion of the Climate Companion Card even more meaningful in terms of metropolitan area joint development.

In Goyang City, the card will additionally be usable at 10 stations on Line 3 (Daehwa to Samsong), 10 stations on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line (Tanhyeon to Korea Aerospace University), and 6 stations on the Seohae Line (Ilsan to Neunggok). It will also be available on 28 Seoul-licensed buses passing through Goyang City, greatly enhancing mobility convenience for Goyang citizens. Furthermore, with Gwacheon City starting the service together from the 30th, the usage area on Line 4 will also expand.

The usage price is the same as in Seoul. The 30-day pass costs 65,000 KRW (62,000 KRW without Ttareungi bike service), and youths aged 19 to 39 receive an additional 7,000 KRW discount, paying 58,000 KRW (55,000 KRW without Ttareungi). Notably, short-term passes valid for 1 to 5 days are available, making it convenient for foreign tourists and domestic travelers.

The Climate Companion Card can be used as a physical card or via an application (based on Android smartphones).

The physical card can be purchased at the Seoul Metro Customer Safety Office for Lines 1 to 8, convenience stores near subway stations, etc., and then charged with the desired fare type at charging machines inside stations of Lines 1 to 8, Line 9, Sillim Line, and Ui-Sinseol Line before use. The application requires installing ‘Mobile T-money,’ registering as a member, setting the start date, and then using it.

In particular, the Climate Companion Card offers additional benefits for cultural and leisure activities. Showing the card grants a 50% discount on admission to Seoul Grand Park, and the popular ‘Seoul Moon’ at Yeouido Park, recently trending on social media, is available at a 10% discount. Popular performances and exhibitions such as the National Ballet’s Light Theater are also offered at discounted prices.

A city official stated, “In an era of high inflation where the burden of public transportation costs is increasing, we believe the Climate Companion Card will help reduce citizens’ household expenses to some extent. We will strive to provide stable services to our citizens.”

For more details about using the Climate Companion Card, inquiries can be made to the Goyang City Bus Policy Division, Goyang Citizen Call Center, or Seoul 120 Dasan Call Center.
