The Gwangju 5·18 Democratization Movement Education Center announced on the 21st that it will operate the '5·18 Family Camp' for 40 elementary school students and their parents from the Gyeongnam region over one night and two days, from the 23rd to the 24th.
The 5·18 Family Camp is a family program that combines education with play activities. Participants will explore 5·18 historical sites such as the 5·18 Freedom Park to learn about the 5·18 Movement, and experience the spirit of 5·18 and family community through various games like the family Golden Bell quiz, team building, and mission challenges.
In particular, the program is designed for the parent generation who did not directly experience the 5·18 Movement to learn about its history and spirit, and to participate with their children so they can correctly pass it on to the next generation.
Park Yong-su, Director of the Gwangju Democracy, Human Rights, and Peace Bureau, said, “This 5·18 Family Camp is expected to be more than just a place to learn history; it is hoped to be an opportunity for families to feel and empathize with the May spirit together, and through this, to practice the values of democracy in daily life.”
