"She Often Appears in Dreams"... A 50s Mother Who Gifted New Lives to Four People and Passed Away

A woman in her 50s who suddenly collapsed and never regained consciousness shared new life with four people through organ donation before passing away.


According to the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency on the 21st, Lee Seon-ja (55) donated her lungs, liver, and kidneys to four people through brain-dead organ donation at Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital on the 10th of last month.


Ms. Lee collapsed after experiencing dizziness while washing up in September and was transported to the hospital, but she never regained consciousness and fell into a brain-dead state. She was known to have often talked about organ donation and expressed a wish to do a good deed by saving other lives if she were to become brain dead. Her family decided to proceed with the donation in accordance with her wishes.

According to her family, Ms. Lee, born as the second of three daughters in Uljin, Gyeongbuk, was a warm person who always treated others with a smile and had a bright and lively personality. She enjoyed growing flowers and crops and often shared the produce she cultivated with those around her. While working in real estate brokerage, she always wished blessings for others' new beginnings and found fulfillment in seeing the happiness of clients who found their homes, her family said.


Ms. Lee’s son, Kim Min-gyu, expressed his heartfelt feelings toward her, saying, "I feel so sorry that she worked hard for the family all her life and is leaving now. I should have visited home more often and seen her face more. She often appears in my dreams."
