Gangseo-gu Creates Unmanned Rest Areas for Delivery, Courier, and Substitute Drivers

Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) has created a rest area for mobile workers such as delivery and courier drivers, substitute drivers, and home tutoring teachers who frequently move around without a fixed office.

The rest area is a 13.2㎥ (approximately 4 pyeong) container building located in the roadside parking lot area next to Building A of Booyoung Gangseo in Hwagok 6-dong (near 14-2 Gonghang-daero 46-gil). Inside, it is equipped with various convenience facilities such as heating and cooling systems, air sterilizers, hot and cold water dispensers, and smart chargers.

Right next to the rest area, there is also a 10.8㎥ (approximately 3 pyeong) parking space, allowing mobile workers who use vehicles, such as delivery and substitute drivers, to rest comfortably. The rest area operates unmanned 24 hours under the management of the Gangseo Control Center and is equipped with security facilities such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) to ensure safe use.

The operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily, year-round. Mobile workers who wish to use the facility can access it through personal authentication methods such as Naver QR codes.

Currently, the number of mobile workers, including delivery workers and substitute drivers working through platforms, is steadily increasing due to the development of the Magok district and the revitalization of commercial areas in Gangseo-gu. In response, the district expects that the newly established rest area will become a warm resting place for mobile workers tired of the cold and waiting on the streets.

Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon stated, "I hope this space will allow mobile workers to take a break and recharge, even if only for a short time," and added, "We will continue to create such spaces to resolve blind spots in labor welfare."
