Høiby is currently known to be held in custody. Høiby is the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, who is the heir to the Norwegian throne. The police stated that Høiby is suspected of sexually assaulting a victim who was in a state unable to resist. The victim is known to be a woman in her 20s who met Høiby for the first time on the day of the incident. Høiby currently denies the charges. Hedvig Salomon, the lawyer for the sexual assault victim, claimed in an interview with a media outlet that "she is going through a difficult time."
This is not the first time Høiby has been involved in legal disputes. Norwegian public broadcaster NRK reported that Høiby is currently suspected of committing multiple offenses against five people, including four women and one man, including the sexual assault charges. According to NRK's report, three of the four female victims were in romantic relationships with Høiby, and he is suspected of sexually abusing them. Additionally, he is also accused of threatening to kill the male victim in his 20s.
In August, Høiby was charged with assault and property damage related to a violent incident at an apartment in Oslo. He was preliminarily charged with bodily harm and criminal damage but was released. Although details have not been disclosed, the police later filed more preliminary charges against Høiby, including violating several restraining orders and driving without a valid driver's license. At that time, Høiby admitted, "Under the influence of alcohol and drugs, I committed assault and property damage at the apartment," and stated, "I will receive treatment related to this."
Earlier, when Høiby's parents, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, got engaged in 2001, the Crown Princess faced much public criticism for being "unsuitable as a future queen" due to rumors of enjoying parties and drugs, as well as having a child with a man who was convicted of drug possession. In response, the Crown Princess reportedly apologized at a press conference a week before the wedding, admitting she had "led a dissolute life" before meeting Crown Prince Haakon. Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have a daughter, Ingrid Alexandra (20), and a son, Sverre Magnus (18).
