Seongdong-gu to Hold 'Winter Garden Special Lecture' on the 25th

On November 25 at 10 AM, the final session of the 'Seongdong Gardening Program' for creating 'Our Neighborhood Small Garden' was held in the district office 3rd floor auditorium... Over 130 residents and community council members participated, sharing gardening theory education and garden creation achievements in a communication session

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it will hold a special lecture on "Winter Garden" on November 25th at the 3rd-floor auditorium of Seongdong-gu Office as part of the "Our Neighborhood Small Garden" project.

In April, the district was selected in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's regional specialized resident autonomy project contest and is promoting the "Our Neighborhood Small Garden" project in connection with "Everyday Garden City Seongdong" together with the resident autonomy committees of 17 neighborhoods.

Reflecting the high demand for gardens among residents, the district is promoting the creation of "Our Neighborhood Small Garden" in three areas: "Seongdong Gardening Program," "Our Neighborhood, Our Flower Cultivation," and "Growing Companion Plants," so that anyone can directly cultivate and enjoy a garden close to their home in daily life.

The "Seongdong Gardening Program" is an educational program combining theory and field practice to learn the meaning and value of plants and gardening and to create a healthy community culture. About 130 resident autonomy committee members and residents participated from 13 neighborhoods including Wangsimni-dosun-dong.

Starting with the first session on September 9th themed "The Joy of Garden Activities," practical training by neighborhood was conducted, including "Decomposition Garden," which uses food waste as compost to cultivate gardens; "Plant Propagation and Sowing," where participants plant a life tree from lemon seeds; "Growing Companion Plants," which teaches how to plant and care for air-purifying plants by inviting neighbors; and "Outdoor Plant Management," where participants imagine flowers blooming next year and plant bulbs directly in neighborhood flower beds.

The final session, the "Winter Garden Special Lecture," will be held on November 25th. In the first part, a gardener will provide education on garden planning and cultivation practice under the theme "The Joy of Gardens in Winter." Following this, the second part will offer a communication session to share the progress of the "Our Neighborhood, Our Flower Cultivation" project and the achievements of garden creation, providing an opportunity to experience the beauty that gardens offer throughout the four seasons.

"Our Neighborhood, Our Flower Cultivation" is a project where flowers reflecting the environmental and cultural characteristics of the neighborhood are selected, and residents create gardens together through professional landscaping and gardening education and field practice. Resident autonomy committees from four neighborhoods?Wangsimni 2(i)-dong, Seongsu 2(i)-ga 1(il)-dong, Songjeong-dong, and Yongdap-dong?are participating in this resident-participatory garden creation.

Additionally, the district is conducting "Growing Companion Plants" for elderly living alone and single-person households in parallel with the "Seongdong Gardening Program," providing guidance on planting and caring for companion plants and offering opportunities for communication through plants.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "The 'Our Neighborhood Small Garden' project is especially meaningful because residents lead and directly cultivate and create gardens themselves," adding, "We will continue to communicate and collaborate with resident autonomy committees so that all residents can enjoy the happiness that everyday gardens bring."
