The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that five models totaling 58,180 units manufactured or imported and sold by Ford Sales Service Korea, Kia, Renault Korea, and Stellantis Korea have been found to have manufacturing defects and will be voluntarily recalled.
31,634 units of the Ford Explorer are being recalled since the 18th due to improper installation of exterior parts on both sides of the front windshield, which may detach while driving.
23,090 units of the Kia Carens have been identified with a fire risk due to insufficient durability of the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU). Two models, including the Renault SM3 Z.E., totaling 3,156 units, have a confirmed possibility of fire occurring during or after charging due to minor short circuits within the high-voltage battery cells. The recall will begin on the 25th.
300 units of the Stellantis Jeep Grand Cherokee have a durability issue with the crankshaft tone wheel. Due to the risk of accidents caused by engine power loss, the recall will start on the 6th of next month.
Regarding the recall, each manufacturer will notify vehicle owners of the correction methods via mail and mobile text messages. If a vehicle owner has repaired the defect at their own expense, they can apply for repair cost compensation from the manufacturer. Whether a vehicle is subject to recall and detailed information about the manufacturing defects can be checked by entering the vehicle number or chassis number on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Automobile Recall Center website.
