Ddaddeuthan Donghaeng, with sponsorship from HanmiGlobal, has been selecting young people with disabilities who have high growth potential for 15 years and providing them with customized advanced assistive devices. So far, a total of 633 young people with disabilities have received support.
This year, after a screening process, 10 young people with disabilities were selected, including university students from Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Sogang University, as well as IT developers and nonprofit activists. At the event, Ddaddeuthan Donghaeng delivered electric wheelchairs, braille information terminals, manual wheelchairs with electric kits, hearing aids, and other devices according to the type of disability of the attendees.
Kim Yeonbak (26, Yonsei University), who dreams of becoming a medical AI developer, has a severe disability with paralysis in his hands and arms due to a cervical spine injury from an accident in high school. Despite this, he continues his studies and is also active as a wheelchair rugby player. Ddaddeuthan Donghaeng provided Kim, who works as a spinal cord injury counselor helping mid-term disabled people with independence and career paths, with a new manual wheelchair and an electric assist kit for the wheelchair.
Byun Jaewon (30, Seoul National University), who has a disability caused by medical malpractice and surgery for severe scoliosis, was supported with an electric manual wheelchair. Byun, who is pursuing a doctoral degree in public administration, said at the delivery ceremony, "I want to contribute to building a safety net in our society by researching welfare policies for people with disabilities."
Kim Jonghun, chairman of HanmiGlobal and chairman of Ddaddeuthan Donghaeng, said in an encouragement speech, "The advanced assistive device support project for people with disabilities helps young people with disabilities who have abundant growth potential and capabilities to become independent and supports them to grow as leaders in society." He added, "Ddaddeuthan Donghaeng will continue to support young people with disabilities so that they can enter society and realize their dreams."
