Daily Sewage Treatment Capacity of 6,500 Tons
Haman-gun, Gyeongnam held a completion ceremony for the Chilwon Water Reclamation Center, established to effectively treat the rapidly increasing sewage due to regional development and population growth near Ogok-ri, Chilwon-eup.
The ceremony held on the 19th was attended by County Governor Jo Geun-je, County Council Chairman Lee Man-ho, heads of organizations, and about 120 local residents.
The Chilwon Water Reclamation Center was constructed with a total project cost of 43.6 billion KRW, starting in November 2020 and completed at the end of October this year. It can treat 6,500 tons of domestic sewage per day and handles sewage generated from apartments, commercial buildings, and nearby villages in the Chilwon Ogok area.
As a result, odor and water quality issues previously occurring in the area, as well as individual sewage treatment cost problems, are expected to be resolved, creating a pleasant environment.
In particular, the sewage treatment facility was installed underground, and the upper part is operated as offices for the Water and Sewage Business Office and the consigned management operation team, minimizing environmental concerns such as aesthetics and odors that residents worry about.
Additionally, convenience facilities for residents such as an indoor gymnasium, soccer field, outdoor performance hall, and playground have been created to eliminate the prejudice that sewage treatment facilities are undesirable and to provide residents with comfortable spaces for sports and relaxation.
County Governor Jo Geun-je said in his commemorative speech, “Thanks to the cooperation of the residents, the Chilwon Water Reclamation Center was safely completed,” and added, “I hope it will be loved as a space for residents’ sports and relaxation, moving away from the perception of being an undesirable facility.”
