The Daejeon Metropolitan Government announced that it has disclosed the list of 233 individuals and entities with high-value or habitual local tax or local administrative penalty arrears of 10 million won or more on the city’s official website and Wetax.
The disclosed high-value and habitual delinquents are those who, as of January 1 this year, have been in arrears of 10 million won or more for over a year since the occurrence of the arrears. By October, those subject to disclosure were given opportunities for voluntary payment and explanation, and the final list was confirmed after deliberation by the Local Tax Review Committee.
By type of arrears, 227 individuals or entities (9.88 billion won) were for local taxes, and 6 individuals or entities (210 million won) were for local administrative penalties and surcharges.
The highest amount of local tax arrears is 570 million won for corporations and 1.14 billion won for individuals. For local administrative penalties and surcharges, the highest arrears are 50 million won for corporations and 109 million won for individuals.
The city plans to collect the arrears by entrusting the Korea Customs Service with the seizure of high-value goods carried upon entry and imported items purchased via overseas direct purchase from those whose names have been disclosed.
Cho Jungyeon, head of the Daejeon City Taxation Division, said, “We will do our utmost to establish a sound tax payment culture by imposing strong administrative sanctions such as travel bans and public information registration on high-value and habitual delinquents.”
