An unexpectedly large number of applicants flocked to a job posting offering money to those who would get sprayed with a self-defense spray.

On the 18th, an online community posted a thread titled "A part-time job posted by a 22-year-old female college student on Danggeun." According to the post, a job listing titled "Looking for a man to try out a self-defense product (pepper spray)" was recently uploaded on the secondhand trading platform Danggeun Market. The author, Ms. A, introduced herself as "a 22-year-old female college student" and began by saying, "The world is a dangerous place, and I have encountered several molesters while walking at night, so my father sent me a self-defense product."

She continued, "But I’m not sure if it’s effective," and explained the purpose of the job posting: "I’m looking for a man to simply test it out." She added, "If you have a fantasy about being harassed by a female college student, it could be mutually beneficial. Please apply only if you genuinely think it’s okay and want to do it." Ms. A also offered 20,000 won as payment for the part-time job. The post quickly gained attention online, surpassing 1,500 views shortly after being published.

Later, Ms. A left a review on X (formerly Twitter). She said, "I just wanted to half-jokingly pay a man to test the performance of the pepper spray, and I’m glad it brought laughter to everyone." She added, "To bring even more laughter, I’m sharing that the final number of applicants was 23, along with their self-introductions. I hope all women stay safe."

According to the applicant introductions shared by Ms. A, one man who identified himself as 21 years old said, "I don’t have that fantasy, but I’m curious and want to try it. If it’s okay, I want to buy it for my girlfriend. I’d appreciate it if you pick me." Another applicant said, "I’m confident. I can role-play a criminal scenario and live 10 minutes away," adding, "I want to quickly get sprayed with the pepper spray and receive 20,000 won. I’m in urgent need of money." On the other hand, some expressed negative reactions, asking, "Are you out of your mind?"

Netizens who came across the story responded with comments such as, "I’m surprised there are so many applicants," and "There really are some unique people in the world."

Meanwhile, pepper spray is a spray developed for self-defense that sprays a lachrymatory agent from a container to incapacitate an opponent in dangerous situations. It usually contains capsaicin, and if the liquid hits the face, it can cause breathing difficulties and pain.
