Investigation into Responsibility for Accident at Hyundai Motor Ulsan Plant Underway
Amid a fatal accident at Hyundai Motor Company's Ulsan plant, the Ministry of Employment and Labor has established a Central and Regional Industrial Accident Response Headquarters. They plan to conduct a special inspection of the workplace and the headquarters and investigate any violations of related laws.
Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo expressed his condolences and regret to the bereaved families regarding the accident that occurred on the afternoon of the 19th, stating, "We will conduct a swift and thorough investigation to identify the cause of the accident and assign responsibility."
On the same afternoon, three employees at Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant were found unconscious inside a vehicle during a vehicle test and were transported to the hospital, but all three died.
Following the accident, the Ministry of Employment and Labor ordered the local employment and labor offices (Busan Office, Ulsan Office) to dispatch personnel to the site and issue work stoppage orders for the relevant tasks and identical operations.
Additionally, the Central and Regional Industrial Accident Response Headquarters was formed, and the Industrial Accident Prevention Supervision Officer (Head of the Central Industrial Accident Response Headquarters) was urgently dispatched to the site.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to investigate potential violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accident Punishment Act related to this accident. They also announced plans to conduct a special inspection of the workplace and headquarters involved.
