Jung Joon-ho "Leads Agreement on Apartment Sewage Fee Issue"

Adjustment Meeting on the 20th... Expected to Alleviate Resident Burden and Improve Environment

Jung Joon-ho "Leads Agreement on Apartment Sewage Fee Issue" Assemblyman Jeong Junho.

Jeong Jun-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Gwangju Buk-gu Gap, has reached an agreement to resolve the issue of public sewage usage fees faced by residents of The Sharp Gwangju Forest and to establish fundamental measures to address groundwater leakage problems. This agreement is scheduled to be officially confirmed at an on-site mediation meeting held at Gwangju City Hall on the morning of the 20th.

Since moving in last August, The Sharp Gwangju Forest has experienced about 800 tons of groundwater leaking daily into the sewage system, resulting in monthly charges of approximately 10 million KRW. Although residents filed complaints with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission regarding fees for groundwater they did not use, the resolution was delayed for a long time due to disputes over responsibility among related agencies and cost-sharing issues, causing difficulties.

In a situation where finding a solution was challenging, Representative Jeong took the lead in negotiations among resident representatives, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Gwangju City, and POSCO E&C, acting as a bridge. Through multiple meetings and consultations, he coordinated the positions of each institution and played a decisive role in deriving a reasonable solution.

The agreement includes measures such as ▲ installation of new pipelines to separate sewage and stormwater pipes ▲ adjustment of construction cost sharing ▲ refund of previously unbilled sewage usage fees. These measures are expected to alleviate the economic burden on residents while also contributing to the improvement of local environmental issues such as the Gwangju Stream.

Representative Jeong said, “I am pleased that the long-standing difficulties faced by residents are now reaching a turning point for resolution,” and added, “I am grateful to the residents, POSCO E&C, Gwangju City, and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission for their cooperation and support despite the challenges.”

He also emphasized, “This agreement will not only reduce the economic burden on residents but also lead to significant achievements in improving the local environment,” and stated, “I will continue to listen to the voices of residents and work to make Gwangju Buk-gu a better place to live.”

Meanwhile, the on-site mediation meeting to be held on the 20th at the Business Room on the 3rd floor of Gwangju City Hall is expected to be attended by Representative Jeong Jun-ho, Yoo Cheol-hwan, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Lee Sang-gap, Deputy Mayor of Gwangju City, Kim Myung-jun, Head of CS at POSCO E&C, and resident representatives.
