On the 19th, Superintendent Lim Tae-hee distributed a letter to parents of 3rd-year middle school students. The letter contains detailed information about the application period for late high school admissions (general high schools and autonomous public high schools) in the equalization areas, which will take place from December 6 to 12, as well as the student assignment plan.
According to the letter, the student assignment for high schools in equalization areas will apply a "first-apply, then-lottery" method. This approach emphasizes respecting students' school choice rights to the fullest extent and clarifies that it is not a proximity-based assignment according to residential address.
Superintendent Lim stated, "The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will strive to increase satisfaction among students and parents regarding high school assignments," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that the student assignment process is fair, objective, and transparent."
The assignment process is divided into two stages: 'assignment within school districts' and 'assignment within zones.' In the first stage, students select five schools within their school district, and in the second stage, they rank all high schools within the zone of their middle school. However, the Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, and Uijeongbu school districts are treated as single zones, and only the first stage of assignment within the school district is conducted.
Notably, applicants to foreign language high schools, international high schools, and autonomous private high schools can also apply simultaneously to general high schools within the equalization school districts if they wish. In such cases, lottery-based assignment to general high schools in the equalization districts will be conducted only for students who are not admitted to special-purpose high schools.
The Office of Education expects that distributing this letter will enhance parents' understanding of the student assignment plan in Gyeonggi's equalization areas and help them carefully prepare their school preference rankings.
Meanwhile, this letter can also be found on the websites of the education support offices in the high school equalization areas, middle schools, and the provincial office of education’s high school admission and transfer portal.
