Changnyeong-gun, "Be Sure to Get the Pertussis Vaccination"

Infants Under 12 Months, Timely and Preventive Vaccination
6th Dose for 11-12 Year Olds with Low Vaccination Rates

Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, emphasized the importance of protecting high-risk groups with a high risk of severe complications as the first death case of pertussis in infants under 2 months old occurred domestically amid the widespread outbreak of pertussis both in Korea and internationally.

In particular, since pertussis is spreading widely among children and adolescents, infants under 12 months must receive vaccinations on schedule at 2, 4, and 6 months, and children aged 11 to 12 with low vaccination rates must receive the 6th dose without fail.

The main symptom of pertussis is paroxysmal coughing, which may be followed by vomiting or apnea, and it spreads through droplet infection. For prevention, it is essential to strictly follow respiratory infectious disease prevention guidelines such as ▲practicing proper cough etiquette ▲regular hand washing ▲avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands ▲frequent indoor ventilation ▲visiting medical institutions if fever or respiratory symptoms occur.

To prevent the spread of infectious diseases, Changnyeong-gun is providing pertussis vaccinations for a fee (23,000 KRW, available before delivery) to pregnant women at 27 to 36 weeks of gestation, their spouses, and grandparents caring for the baby who reside in Changnyeong-gun, so that infants can be born with immunity before their first pertussis vaccination at 2 months.

County Governor Seong Nak-in emphasized, “If symptoms such as persistent coughing, convulsions, or runny nose appear, you must immediately visit a medical institution for examination and treatment.”
