Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, and other executives from the broader Samsung-affiliated groups attended the 37th memorial service for Ho-am Lee Byung-chul, the founder of Samsung, held on the 19th at the family burial ground near Ho-am Art Museum in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, to pay tribute to the late founder's spirit.

37th Memorial Ceremony for Lee Byung-chul, Samsung Founder Chairman... Samsung Family Visits Yongin for Tribute (Comprehensive) On the morning of the 19th, Hong Ra-hee, former director of the Samsung Museum of Art Leeum, Lee Boo-jin, president of Hotel Shilla, Lee Seo-hyun, president of Samsung C&T Corporation, and Kim Jae-yeol, president of Samsung Global Research, attended the 37th anniversary memorial service for Ho-am Lee Byung-chul, founder of Samsung, held at Seonyeong near Ho-am Art Museum in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. According to business circles, Ho-am's grandson, Chairman Lee Jae-yong, former Leeum Museum Director Hong Ra-hee, Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin, Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun, and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Kim Jae-yeol visited the Yongin family burial ground around 10:40 a.m. that day. Chairman Lee was unable to attend last year's memorial service due to a scheduling conflict with the first trial verdict hearing on 'unfair merger and accounting fraud,' but this year he attended with his family. The Samsung family head stayed at the burial site for about 50 minutes before leaving. Samsung executives did not attend the memorial service this year, the same as last year.

Ho-am's eldest grandson, CJ Group Chairman Lee Jae-hyun, was the first to arrive around 9 a.m., visiting the Yongin family burial ground with his son Lee Sun-ho, Head of Food Growth Promotion at CJ CheilJedang, and daughter Lee Kyung-hoo, Head of Brand Strategy at CJ ENM, staying for about 40 minutes to pay respects. As in previous years, Chairman Lee Jae-hyun plans to hold a separate ancestral rite in the evening at the old family house in Jangchung-dong, Seoul, where Ho-am lived during his lifetime.

In the afternoon, Ho-am's maternal grandson Cho Dong-gil, Chairman of Hansol Group, and executives from Shinsegae Group will visit the burial ground to pay their respects. The broader Samsung-affiliated groups used to hold a joint memorial service for Ho-am, but since 2012, when brothers Lee Maeng-hee, former CJ Chairman, and Lee Kun-hee, former Samsung Chairman, engaged in an inheritance dispute, they have held separate events at different times on the same day.

Founder Lee Byung-chul established 'Samsung Sanghoe' in 1938, starting with the export of fruits and dried seafood, which became the foundation of Samsung C&T. The sugar business he started in 1953, Cheil Jedang, is the origin of CJ Group.
