The county proposed the 'Jangseong Wonderland Project' in this year's contest and achieved the final selection.
Earlier, on the 15th of last month, at the 'Jeonnam Policy Vision Tour' held at Jangseong County Office, County Governor Kim Han-jong formally requested Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeonnam Province for the selection of the 'Wonderland Project' and actively worked to secure the contest selection.
A project briefing session was held at Songjeong Village near Jangseongho Tourist Site, sharing the project details with residents and striving to build consensus among the local community.
Having secured a project budget of 30 billion KRW including provincial and county funds, Jangseong-gun plans to promote the 'Wonderland Project' to create a tourism-specialized space around the Bukha-myeon Jangseongho Tourist Site starting in 2026. 'Wonderland' means 'a land of imagination in a fairy tale.'
Located in the upper stream area of Jangseongho, the Jangseongho Tourist Site boasts facilities such as the Im Kwon-taek Cinematheque and a cultural arts park, with a site area of 250,000㎡ including idle land. Although it has been steadily used by locals and tourists, the facilities have become outdated after 20 years since establishment, raising concerns.
The 'Jangseong Wonderland Project' is a business plan to create a four-season tourist attraction by establishing ▲an arts park ▲a complex cultural space ▲a children's theme park ▲a pet theme park ▲accommodation spaces at Jangseongho Tourist Site. It offers differentiated tourism experiences with attractions and entertainment such as a cinema-specialized street, giant trees, and air bounces. In particular, the arts park is expected to feature diverse film content centered on the 'Im Kwon-taek Cinematheque,' commemorating film director Im Kwon-taek, a native of Jangseong who has risen to the ranks of a master. A fantastic night view using holograms and landscape lighting will also be installed.
County Governor Kim Han-jong said, "Through the selection of the 'Jeonnam-type Balanced Development 300 Project' contest, the once underdeveloped Jangseongho Tourist Site is expected to be reborn as a beloved four-season attraction," adding, "We will prepare without any setbacks by collecting tourism trends, big data, and opinions from locals and experts."
