Expansion of Support for Childcare Time and Family Care Leave
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 19th that it has revised part of the employment regulations to support the work-life balance of educational public employees and strengthen workers' rights.
The main points of this revision include improvements in working conditions such as the expansion of childcare time and child care leave, the establishment of childcare leave, the introduction of reward leave, and the strengthening of school (institution) principals' management authority over work suspension procedures.
The revision includes ▲expansion of childcare time eligibility (children under 8 years old or in 2nd grade or below in elementary school) ▲extension of childcare time period (36 months, 2 hours per day) ▲expansion of child care leave eligibility (including minor and disabled children) ▲increase in child care leave days (1 additional day from the second child, 1 additional day for employees with disabled children or single parents).
In particular, the revision also includes ▲establishment of childcare leave (5 days granted to employees with children under 7 years old who are not yet in school) ▲expansion of special leave (3 days in case of sibling death) ▲introduction of reward leave (for government award recipients, public election workers) ▲strengthening of work suspension procedures (in cases where work is difficult due to child abuse allegations, workplace harassment, etc.).
The revision focuses on strengthening support so that educational public employees with young children can balance childcare and work.
Superintendent Kim Dae-jung said, “This revision focuses on practically improving the working environment of educational public employees,” and added, “We will continue to provide ongoing support so that employees with young children can secure time with their families and harmoniously balance work and family life.”
