The Resident Self-Sustaining Village Vitalization Project is designed to discover local resources in border areas and promote village development. The project aims to realize a profit-generating small village and is divided into Phase 1, which focuses on strengthening resident capabilities and establishing village development plans, and Phase 2, which involves infrastructure construction and comprehensive development.
Garaeul Village in Changsu-myeon was selected as a village enterprise in 2016 and operates as a village community corporation producing soybean milk, tofu, perilla oil, and sesame oil using local agricultural products. After securing 50 million KRW in project funds by being selected for Phase 1 last year, it has now been finally selected for Phase 2 as well.
Pocheon City plans to expand new processing facilities and establish a local agricultural product circulation system through the Phase 2 project. Additionally, the city will create a village mill and provide a community meeting space where residents can communicate and cooperate, thereby revitalizing the resident network and injecting vitality into the local economy.
A Pocheon City official stated, "The Border Area Resident Self-Sustaining Village Vitalization Project is an important opportunity to strengthen the capabilities of local residents and establish a sustainable economic foundation. We hope this project will serve as a stepping stone for Garaeul Village to become a sustainable development model, and Pocheon City will continue to cooperate with residents to successfully carry out the project."
