Mayor Baek Young-hyun: "Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Expanding Renewable Energy... Actively Discovering 'Pocheon-type RE100' Projects"
Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 19th that it has been finally selected for the 2025 Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project competition hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing 500 million KRW in national funding, and plans to invest a total project cost of 2.09 billion KRW to promote renewable energy.
The Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project aims to increase energy self-sufficiency by installing two or more types of renewable energy sources such as solar power, solar heat, and geothermal energy in houses, public buildings, and commercial buildings, and is promoted with the goal of realizing the international campaign (RE100) through eco-friendly energy transition.
To be selected in this competition, the city held eight business briefing sessions to promote the project and recruit applicants. As a result, it was recognized for the feasibility of the project through the evaluation and review by the Korea Energy Agency and was finally selected.
In particular, at the public evaluation held in July in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk Province, Choi Myung-sik, Director of the Climate and Environment Division, emphasized the purpose of the project, including achieving Pocheon RE100 and Green Pocheon 2043, and expanding welfare in energy-vulnerable areas, receiving positive evaluations.
Through this project, the city plans to install power generation facilities including 747 kW of solar power, 80㎡ of solar heat, and 280 kW of geothermal energy at 224 houses and buildings in the jurisdiction such as Gwanin-myeon, Sinbuk-myeon, Yeongbuk-myeon, Yeongjung-myeon, Ildong-myeon, Idong-myeon, Changsu-myeon, and Hwacheon-myeon, expecting environmental effects such as reducing electricity bills, fuel costs, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, “This project will greatly contribute to improving citizens’ energy welfare and realizing RE100 through eco-friendly energy transition,” and added, “We will continue to actively discover ‘Pocheon-type RE100’ projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and expand renewable energy.”
