"Claimed 'I Tried to Pay for the Shoes'"
A man who wore the same clothes and stole shoes displayed at the same shoe store twice was eventually caught.
On the 18th, JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' introduced an incident that occurred on the 11th at a shoe store in a department store in Daejeon. CCTV footage of the situation shows a man wearing a red jumper browsing the displayed shoes and taking out one shoe to try on. He appeared to check if the size fit by walking a few steps wearing the shoe. Afterwards, he looked around nervously, watched the staff, and then took the displayed shoes and left the store.
Four days later, on the 15th, the man visited the shoe store again wearing the same clothes. He quickly tried on a pair of shoes and ran away immediately. The prices of the shoes stolen by the man were 79,000 won and 119,000 won respectively, causing the store about 200,000 won in property damage. It was reported that the man exploited the layout where the display shelves were not clearly visible from the cashier, attempting theft while the staff was working at the counter.
The man then attempted a third theft at the same store wearing the same clothes again. However, when the staff recognized him, he passed by the store and hid in the restroom, but was eventually caught by the staff and related personnel. Right after being caught, the man claimed, "I was going to pay for the shoes," and tried to take out money. However, when shown the CCTV footage of the crime, he soon admitted to his wrongdoing. The police are currently investigating the detailed circumstances of the incident.
Netizens who heard the story responded with various comments such as "Why does he live like that?", "If you're going to commit a crime, at least change your clothes. He would be caught quickly by the color of his jumper and his walk," and "He's a bad person. Since it's habitual, he should be sentenced to prison."
